The Arctec R is the most advanced carbon frame ever produced by Apollo. The super light modular monocoque carbon frame utilises a unique multi weave carbon construction technique further enhanced with CSCNT Nano technology.

 

This technique utilises ultra light 60T carbon to keep weight to an absolute minimum along the frame’s centre section where less strength is required. 40T carbon wraps around the bottom bracket and head tube junction points where the frame requires the most strength. Other sections of the frame use a combination of both of these carbon fibre sheets together with 50T carbon.

 

These three different raw carbon materials all have their own advantages and when they are precisely laid up together in a specific way it allows for much greater control over the ultimate characteristic of each part of the frame.

This extremely labour intensive construction technique starts with the carbon raw material being impregnated with CSCNT Nano technology. These microscopic particles are readily dispersed into the carbon providing better interlaminar strength and better vibration absorption. The result is a stiffer frame that is more responsive and more comfortable allowing an athlete to ride at high speed for longer with less fatigue.

 

The carbon material is then laid up around polyurethane inserts that provide temporary structure to create the framework of the tubeset. The carbon material is able to be controlled both inside and outside the frame as it is molded resulting in a frame with superb consistency and no wrinkles or excess resin.

Microscopic CSCNT Nano particles are embedded in the raw carbon material and are readily dispersed into the carbon providing better interlaminar strength and better vibration absorption. The result is a stiffer frame that is more responsive and more comfortable allowing an athlete to ride at high speed for longer with less fatigue.

MULTI-WEAVE CARBON LAYUP

Every carbon frame in our range uses only the highest quality Japanese Toray carbon raw materials. Different carbon grades have different attributes and by utilising various grades of raw carbon material in each frame we are able to maximise the attributes of these raw materials. For example, 60T carbon is incredibly light but not very strong. By using lightweight carbon along a tube’s centre section intertwined with denser raw material in and around junction points we can maximise the stiffness to weight ratio. This is an extremely labour intensive construction technique that ultimately allows us to manipulate specific areas of the frame without adding extra weight.

Slim Monostay

SLIM MONOSTAY

The superior ride quality of our high performance carbon road frames is partly attributed to the balance of frame rigidity and ride compliance. The Super slim monostay provides balance by providing a small amount of vertical flex that dampens the vibrations coming up through the frame. These vibrations are commonly referred to as road buzz and contribute to rider fatigue during long rides. To further eliminate road buzz we utilise a traditional geometry or diamond frame design in each and every one of our road bikes; the same type of classic styling that has been race proven over generations, racing to victory in the world’s toughest bike races and in the most gruelling endurance events.

 

The main feature of a classic (diamond) frame is the two large front and rear triangles. This design uses longer length tubing than compact frames and that extra length allows bumps and road vibrations to be soaked up along the length of that tube in a way that compact frames simply cannot achieve. This substantially increases a frame’s compliance and comfort. You get a smoother, more comfortable ride.

Torsion Control Stays

Asymmetric torsion control chain stays are taller than those used on many high-end carbon bikes. These chain stays are incredibly stiff and balance the ride compliance of the seat stays. The stay on the non drive side is shorter and wider than the drive side to ensure maximum power transfer is delivered to the rear wheel.

Polyurethane inserts provide a temporary framework to construct the lay up of the carbon material. The carbon material can be supported both inside and outside the frame as it is moulded resulting in a frame with superb consistency and no wrinkles or excess resin.

WRINKLE-FREE MOULDING TECHNOLOGY

Advanced construction techniques allow us to control the carbon lay up inside and outside the frame walls as it is constructed. This process ensures the frame is wrinkle free and provides a much more consistent resin content in the carbon. Carbon wrinkles are often formed where two carbon sheets meet and is a weak point that affects a frame's rigidity and reliability.

Monocoque Construction

MONOCOQUE CONSTRUCTION

A three piece modular carbon construction is used on all our carbon frames. The front triangle of the frame including the seat tube and bottom bracket is assembled as one piece with the chain and seat stays separately assembled and bonded into the main frame.
